YAKISOBA – SIMPLE RECIPE FOR THE JAPANESE DISH

The Japanese cuisine dishes raise hearts of gourmets around the world. The traditional dishes, which come to us from Japan, gain more and more supporters. Yakisoba is one of the dish occurring on both Japanese and European tables. What is exactly hidden under the oriental name?

Yakisoba is a dish with noodles, which appeared in the Japanese menu at the beginning of the 20th century as an adaptation of the originally Chinese recipe for noodle chow mein. Fried noodles, because it literally means Yakisoba, can often be found among the Japanese booths with street food. Furthermore, in Japan, read-made sauces of oyster taste, which are added to Yakisoba, are popular. Although Soba means buckwheat, noodles themselves, which are the basis of Yakisoba, are made of wheat flour.

Preparation and method of serving

Yakisoba is prepared by frying noodles, used in another popular dish – Ramen. Pork, vegetables such as cabbage, onions and carrots, and Yakisoba sauce, salt and pepper, which give the dish a unique taste and aroma, as added. Yakisoba is served in the company of selected additives such as beni shoga – chopped ginger, katsuobushi – fish flakes, mayonnaise or aonori – powdered seaweed. Yakisoba is most often served in a deep plate, as the main dish or additive. A popular method to serve Yakisoba in Japan is to roll noodles as a “bun”, and placing additives in them, decorating with mayonnaise and slices of ginger.

Yakisoba – simple recipe

Yakisoba is relatively easy to prepare. In order to make a dish straight from Japan, we should have ingredients such as soba noodles, chili sauce, ¼ Chinese cabbage, 2 carrots, onions, grated ginger, sesame oil, mirin, soy sauce and water. After boiling 200 grams of noodles, leave it aside. Mix mirin (2 tablespoons) with soy sauce (2 tablespoons) and a tablespoon of water, and leave it, as well. Fry a tablespoon of grated ginger in sesame oil, then add vegetables to fry until soft. Add noodles with vegetables to wok, pour mirin sauce. Fry the whole gently stirring to combine the ingredients.

Such prepared dish is ready to be eaten. Yakisoba is a great and simple idea for a dish different from the traditional European dishes. Oriental taste and aroma make the Japanese cuisine to occur on European tables more often, gaining faithful supporters around the world.
